Water Close to Home: Pamicor Brings Boreholes and School Support to Three Villages in Burkina Faso

Villagers in Pani, Burkina Faso, collect clean water from the new Pamicor borehole

In Dangona, a village of about 3,592 people in Burkina Faso, getting water used to mean a trip to an unimproved well or a nearby stream. The few boreholes in the area had broken down. On 9 October 2026, that changed.

Pamicor’s team in Burkina Faso has completed two new boreholes, one in Dangona and one in the village of Pani. Together they bring safe drinking water close to home for almost 4,000 people. In the nearby village of Somona, more than 300 pupils are starting the school year with new bags, books and supplies.

Families Who Waited For Safe Water

For families in Dangona and Pani, water had to be fetched, often from sources that were not safe to drink. It was a daily task, and an uncertain one when the old boreholes stopped working.

Pani is a small community of about 354 people in the Pompoï department of Balé province. Dangona, in the Kona department of Mouhoun province, is ten times its size. Both villages now have a reliable source of clean water within the community.

A Day of Celebration

The handover of the boreholes became a celebration. Residents came out in large numbers for the inauguration ceremony, and their joy was plain to see.

Community members also used the moment to speak up for their neighbours. They named other nearby areas where families are still waiting for clean water, a reminder of how great the need remains.

A Better Start At School In Somona

In Somona, a village of about 488 people in the Bana department of Balé province, the focus was on children. More than 300 pupils received a school bag and a kit of supplies, including exercise books, pens, erasers and pencil sharpeners.

Three schools also received 50 desk-benches in total, giving pupils a proper place to sit, write and learn. The support builds on Pamicor’s school initiatives in Ghana, such as the “My First Day at School” programme at Akaaso.

By Africa, For Africa

These projects reflect Pamicor’s “By Africa for Africa” philosophy: the value created by mining in West Africa should benefit the people who live there. The same commitment earned Pamicor recognition at the AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine Contractor CSR Excellence Awards in 2025.

Pamicor thanks its Burkina Faso team for leading the work on the ground, and the people of Dangona, Pani and Somona for welcoming it.
